Upgrade Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 (RTM) – 10.50.1600.1 to Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 (SP2) – 10.50.4000.0

Since the service packs are cumulative DBA’s don’t need to upgrade to SP1 and then upgrade to SP2 to get to SP2. Below are the steps to do the upgrade.

Go to the location where the SP2 application file is downloaded.

1

Double click on the application.

2

Click on Run

3

Click on Continue

4

Click on Next

5

Accept the License terms and click on Next

6

Select the features and click on Next

7

Click Next

8

Ensure that no processes are in use. Identify if any of them are running and then stop and disable any logshipping or replication jobs temporarily until the install is completed. Do a refresh check if any processes are identified as being used after you gracefully end those processes.

9

Now click Next

10

Click on Update

11

12

Click Close

13

Click OK

Hope this helps!
